I love Nigerian weddings. Maybe it’s because I always end up dreaming about me big day as well. Maybe it’s the music. Maybe it’s the joy on
most everyone’s face or maybe it’s the food #PartyRice lol. Whatever it is, I just love weddings. However, one thing that’s quite peculiar to Nigerian weddings and possibly the highlight for most people is getting dressed for the ceremony.
It doesn’t matter if you’re related to the bride or the groom – as long as you’re attending the wedding everyone tries their best to slay. The women wear their finest lace or ankara outfit; the men in suits or traditional attires befitting for royalty, even the children look so precious in their mini outfits. You’ll almost be convinced that they are trying to look better than the bride and groom!
Although the attires previously mentioned are all really nice and look fabulous, I’ve personally never been a fan of wearing traditional clothing to weddings. To be honest, I’ve never had to decide what I wear to a wedding as I’ve always been on the bridal train and for this wedding the same would have been the case; but various activities kept me away from fittings and so I had to forfeit my spot. Then the dilemma came as I had to make my outfit choice myself!
What do I wear?…
… I kept asking myself.
As fate will have it, I met a style blogger at the Lagos Bloggers Brunch, who also happens to be a fashion designer. As expected of a designer, her outfit caught my attention from the minute I saw it and upon enquiry, I found out it was part of her brand’s collection. Immediately I knew I had to patronise her but I didn’t know what I wanted at that point in time. So I visited her brand’s instagram page and the first thing I saw looked wedding perfect. I’ll describe it as an off shoulder dress that somehow walked through a rose bush and got all the flowers caught in it.
“Nothing could be more wedding appropriate than this”…
… I thought to myself and so I placed my order.
When it arrived, it was love at first sight and wearing it to the wedding, I knew I had made the right outfit choice. THE COMPLIMENTS DIDN’T END! and as normal Nigerians, every lady wanted either a picture of the outfit or wanted the contact details of the brand I got it from. I spoke to so many people about this item, I almost began to feel like I should be an ambassador for the brand but anyways… I loved being a guest at the wedding. It’s been so long since I attended one. I enjoyed the music, the food and the festivity and the wedding ceremony was so beautiful and a huge success!
So before you go, what do you think of my look? Slay or Nah?
