Welcome back to my blog ^_^. So today I’m reviewing a 2 items from a brand I’m really excited about mainly because they are products from a Nigerian makeup brand! Also, they are my favourite makeup products, i.e. Lipsticks, and also in my two favourite shades – Red and Purple!
A little background story:
So I came across this brand on instagram, visited their online store, tried ordering some products but I faced a few challenges. So I shoved it to the side. Fastforward a few weeks and while I was strolling through Jabi Lake Mall, Abuja with Maryam of fashionbydaisy.com and Bae and spotted a the House of Tara Makeup studio. At first I didn’t realise the studio was for the same makeup brand I wanted to order from a few weeks back and walked in only to make an enquiry on how much it cost to get a ‘face beat’ #lol. Then I spotted the product display shelf and then it hit me! I was in Tara cosmetics’ makeup studio. It felt like I just walked into heaven! I have never been so excited about makeup and maybe it was because I was in a makeup store in Nigeria where I could test out the products before purchase. The cost of the products was also very reasonable and affordable so that was a massive plus for me #BargainHunter.
The range of products available was so vast and you could practically get all you need for a proper makeup look from primer to blush. Nonetheless, after much deliberation and because this was my first encounter with the brand, I decided to only get 2 of their Satin Lip Colours in shades I was farmilar with just to try out the quality! So here are my thoughts on them…
My first impression of this product (from the packaging) was slick, classy and cute. I’ve always spoken about how much of a sucker for good packaging I am and so the cute little box and slim cylindrical nature of the lipstick itself was definitely a winner! Also, the way the lipstick is shaped means it’s very convinient to carry around even in really small clutches which means you can take it along with you anywhere and reapply your lip colour whenever you need to.
P.S. – They also cost N1,700 (~£4) each which I feel is a decent price to pay for lipstick.
Let’s talk about the pros 🙂
So the two shades I got were Funke (Red shade) and Aswaani (Purple shade). They both come on really nicely and application is not a problem at all. They have a bit of shinner to them but not so much that your lips look glowy. They don’t dry up your lips and are both very moisturizing.
The Funke lipstick (red) is very vibrant and you can get full colour coverage in one layer of application. The Aswaani shade requires a few more layers but it also great as well. I also like the shape of the lipstick itself which helps with the application process.
Let’s talk about the cons 😦
To be honest there’s really no con with these products except for the fact that the Aswaani (Purple) shade doesn’t seem to be as vibrant as the Funke which was a bit of a disappointment for me (see pictures above). Nonetheless, it’ll be perfect for an everyday lip colour so there’s not much to complain about!
So yes – That’s all I have to say on these products and hopefully I get to try some more products by House of Tara soon!
